Pain, Reaction To Narcotics Or Something Else? Please Pray For Jasmine

After some minor improvement yesterday it looks that things are worse again. Jasmine is very miserable, her back end not working well at all.

Also her stomach was upset again. She wanted to go out (I thought she wanted to throw up) so I took her but she has such a hard time moving around ...

We ended up stuck outside in the freezing rain for 45 minutes before I managed to get her back into the house.

I did my best trying to towel-support her, though I'm not sure whether that was actually helping or just confusing her and making things worse.

Called the vet and he thinks she might be reacting to all narcotics now.

He feels it's the pain meds doing this so we are to take her off to codeine and see if any improvement in 24 hours. I think there is a possibility it is that, since she go so messed up after the morphine shot. But could this be pain from how messed up she was? I don't know. Don't have any choice than taking her off the meds and see what happens.

My heart is bleeding for my girl.

At least she's back in the house again and I got her to rest again. After the horror half an hour ago, that's some victory. Ceneria tablet also seems to have settled her stomach, so hopefully that will hold for the time being.

I asked the vet whether he thinks we're just torturing her.

It seems he doesn't feel we need to give up yet. But it is so painful to watch her like this!

Please pray for Jasmine.

  1. Oh my, my heart is breaking for both of you :( I don't know all history but have they checked her spine? And they checked for hip dysplasia?

    1. Thank you, Bren, been crying all day today.

She does have some musculoskeletal issues but she was FINE on Monday. This seems to happen after every time she gets a morphine shot. Now vet things codeine might be doing the same thing.

  2. We've had a number of our dogs with pain management issues and those drugs are just so unpredictable. It's so hard to manage and then you don't know whether it's the drugs or something real.

My heart aches for you, I know how hard it is - stay strong.(maybe another opinion?)

    1. Thank you. Well, she cannot have NSAIDs, she already had a tragic reaction to buprenorphine ... She used to do well with morphine but that doesn't seem to be so any more. And possibly cannot tolerate codeine now either.

Right now the only second opinions I can get are online, as she is not travel-able in order to actually go see somebody.

Her chiro and acupuncture vet tend to agree it's the morphine anyway.

  9. Oh poor baby. It's so hard - the drugs help them "feel" better, but they mess them up so much it is hard to tell what is going on. I'm so sorry - I hope she is feeling herself soon. Sending you big hugs and positive energy.

  10. I'm praying. I know how difficult it is to see our dear pet in pain and especially not to be able to know what is causing it. I know I felt that way as Brooks went through his recent illness. Times like this we wish they could talk. I'm hoping your doctor figures things out and she feels better soon.

    1. Thank you, Peggy, I know your heart is broken too.

I think she tells us what is bothering her well enough; can tell us why, though ...

Talked to our animal communicator today, so I have some idea how she's feeling and what she's "thinking". Just about what I thought. Very close to throwing in the towel but still wanting to fight yet.

  11. Poor puppy. I feel for you, I'm sure that's not very easy to handle. Has she ever tried tramadol?

    1. Thank you, Ann. I break down every time she has to walk somewhere (drink, pee) ...

Tramadol never did a whole lot for her; and now it would appear that the narcotics and pain meds are actually causing the problem rather than helping :-(

The plan was to take her off those she was on and wait what happens when the systems clears of that stuff.
