While we returned to dealing with musculoskeletal issues, then teeth, which seem to be behind some of the latest problems, then recovery from long anesthesia ...
Jasmine's UTI is back with a vengeance and it's a Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius.
I decided to run the urinalysis while she was in for the dental, because I felt things weren't quite right. Surely enough, they're not.
It took a week to get culture sensitivity so Jasmine spent a week on Amoxil for no good reason. Yesterday we took her to the farm and she had a great time. We returned home to the news of resistant infection.
The drug that is left of our list of options seems reasonably not completely horrible; however, in rare cases it can cause neurological side-effects, including paralysis. Good times ... We discussed it to death and decided that it is our best bet anyway.
It is making her stomach upset and after third dose she threw up.
So more meds for that since now, when we started on it, with our limited options, we are married to it if at all possible.
Meanwhile, as if all that wasn't enough fun, it looked like Jasmine's neck flared-up again..
Well, either that or already neuro side-effects?
Emergency trip to the vet--good news (as far as bad news go), it's neither the disc(s) or the drugs but rather extreme flare-up of muscle spasms and pain.
Morphine shot helped with the pain but rendered Jasmine a complete mess in other ways.
Since with some luck (not that she has much of that) this could all be fixed, we're still fighting.
But otherwise we feel that Jasmine is just about at her fill of suffering. Taking it one day at the time and we'll see how successful we can be getting things sorted out.
More consolidated info later. More detailed and frequent updates on my Facebook.
Had such a great time yesterday ... train wreck today. Again. |

Oh my goodness. I can only imagine how exhausted you both must be.
ReplyDeleteKeep fighting and we'll keep praying for her.
It's just horrible. And since she had her episode too and wouldn't settle down, now her back end is completely messed up from all the droopy standing around. There better is some light at the end of the tunnel soon.
DeleteSo sorry all of this is happening to Jasmine and you, again. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kenzo, it's been one horror on top of another lately.
DeleteOh gosh, my heart is breaking and my eyes are welling up. Poor Jasmine. I'm so glad that you continue to fight and try to give her the best life possible. Hugs to you and Jasmine. I'll say some prayers for both of you :(
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bren, it's been an uphill battle lately.
DeleteOh gosh so sorry to read this...you two are fighting so hard and it's time you both got a break...Sending prayers and healing thoughts
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gizmo. Since mid December it was just one disaster on top of another ... Jasmine desperately needs a break!
DeleteThe most important thing now is to tackle and destroy the infection.
As you know, Lilly has the same kind of infection and appears to (maybe) be having a paralysis type side-effect, and just now ... oh, yeah, ... diarrhea while I was on a conference call with a client. Good times.
ReplyDeleteYeah, good times ...
DeleteYes, I know Lilly has the same thing :-(
Jasmine's stools weren't great but reasonably decent so far. Just upset stomach, probably from the meds. And likely an ulcer now too. Good times...
Jasmine won't eat anything at all on her own right now, has to be force-fed every time she gets meds.
With so much crap going on, it is really hard to tell what is what any more ... Seems, that in Jasmine's case, the morphine is messing things up further rather than helping. Which in itself is bad news.
Well, gotta beat this damn infection first.
Poor Jasmine, hope things improve for her soon.
ReplyDeleteAwww. I'm so sorry to hear that. Wishing lil' Jasmine a quick speedy recovery.I can definitely relate to pooch problems. My Smoosh always has something going on. :(

Thank you, Jules, we've been at it for so long and mostly winning ... lately, though, can't win for losing.
DeleteThinking of you, Jazzy Girl. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lindsay, Jasmine can use all the healing thoughts she can get.
DeletePS: that's what I often call her - Jazzie girl :-)
DeleteAww. Whenever I think of her, that's what I call her. Jazzie girl :)
ReplyDeleteThat's probably because she is a Jazzie girl :-)
