Brain Teaser: Why Does Cookie Eat Mice and not Moles?

Do you ever live under the impression you know something only to find out you’ve been oblivious?

Do you ever assume having knowledge because the subject seems so trivial that obviously everybody knows it?


Would you care to guess why Cookie eats the mice she catches but when she gets the occasional mole she will bury it and not eat it?

    I have to admit it's not something I knew, or ever thought of for that matter. I want to say it's because moles are cuter, no offence to the mice lovers, or they don't taste as good! Am I even close?

    That is a puzzling question. Icy catches both but doesn't actually eat them, at least I don't think she does... I find them dead in the yard sometimes. I'll be so interested to know the answer!

    I'm curious to read your theory. As far as I know, my dogs don't catch (or eat) either, but I did have a dog who caught and killed my pet mouse when I was a kid. (She didn't eat him, but it might have been because she didn't have time.)

    Hmm interesting observation and question. I wonder if mice smell and taste better than moles? Then the next thing I wonder is what does a mice eat that a mole doesn't? (shrug) Guess we'll never know.

    Hmmm...curious indeed. My Huskies catch animals and "play" with them to death...no mice here, but one did eat a squirrel tail! (Ewwww. She stared right at me as I was yelling "noooooo!" and swallowed it. :-0 Maybe moles give off some type of displeasing odor and mice are more tasty?
