Our Nail A Day Challenge Update

I am happy to report that we are fulfilling our trim a nail a day resolution and it is working well. We even manage to remember doing it every day!

18 cuts down!

At first the guys were a little apprehensive, now they don't even flinch. That part of the idea is definitely working which I'm very happy to see. And it's easier on us as well, because there is no stress involved and it's over before you can say nail trim.

While the nails themselves still have some ways to go, they are on their way to the proper length.

Cookie was at the vet on Friday for blood work follow up. We had them trim the fur between her toes because it's gotten long and collected snow, ice and mad floors more slippery. I was hoping they'd use clippers, and they did. They trimmed it right down between the toes. Cookie was so good they even put it in their medical notes!

And we were able to tell them not to worry about the nails because we are on top of it.

This was a great idea. I'm glad I thought of it.

It works just as I hoped and even better.

As a side note, Cookie's paw pad is fully healed too. Took a little while with her being as active as she is but we managed to get it healed. It took lot's of cleaning, bandaging and fussing but didn't need any antibiotics.

  1. This was a fantastic idea and I'm so glad it's going well for you! Nail trimmings can be rough and this is a great way to ease the stress for everyone involved.

    1. We've been avoiding this for years. With Jasmine being at the vet's frequently, it was easy enough to have everybody's nails taken care of that way.

Now we needed to step up. This is working really well.

  2. I'm glad this is working for you. If all continues to go well, is the goal to do two nails a day and then continue to work up until you can do all the nails in one session?

Haley just had surgery to have a bump removed last week and it's nice when they trim their nails short. Now I just have to stay on top of it better.

    1. Nope, the goal is to continue doing a nail a day. It also gives just about the right time frame to rotate, since nails should be trimmed every two weeks to a month. This puts the timing somewhere in between and by the time the nail gets its turn again, it'll be time to do it again. Eventually we should be able to trim only a "sliver" at a time.
