A new diagnostic kit has been launched in the UK, that should enable veterinarians to diagnose common diseases without having to send samples out to the lab. The system is called Sensipod and it is based on Elisa ( enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) tests for disease markers.
The first tests available are for environmental allergies.
The Sensipod uses a single cartridge containing all the steps of an Elisa test. It is designed to be quick and simple to use.
We did comprehensive allergy testing for Jasmine and it was rather costly and it took quite a while. I'd certainly appreciate cutting down on time and cost. And I am always happy when the money stays with our vet.
Quick and simple to use sounds good, right?
I'm curious to see how well it works and when this might make its way to the US.
